Attached IPs Stat Card

Overview

The "Attached IPs Stat Card" provides insights into all Elastic IPs that are currently attached to EC2 instances in your AWS environment. This stat card helps IT and Security teams monitor the allocation and usage of Elastic IPs to ensure that they are efficiently utilized and properly configured.

Why It Matters

For IT Engineers:

  1. Resource Allocation:

    • The stat card gives IT teams visibility into all attached Elastic IPs, helping them manage IP address allocation more efficiently and avoid the unnecessary assignment of Elastic IPs to idle instances.

  2. Network Optimization:

    • By tracking attached IPs, IT engineers can ensure that Elastic IPs are only assigned to critical or public-facing EC2 instances that require a static IP address, optimizing network configurations and reducing resource waste.

  3. Scaling and Management:

    • The stat card helps in tracking the allocation of Elastic IPs, assisting with proper scaling and managing IP address consumption in line with changing infrastructure needs.

For Security Engineers:

  1. Security Posture:

    • Security engineers can use the stat card to ensure that Elastic IPs are only assigned to instances that require them and that they are securely managed to prevent unauthorized access.

  2. Access Control:

    • By reviewing attached IPs, security engineers can ensure that IP addresses are not being exposed to the public unnecessarily and are protected by the appropriate security group settings.

  3. Incident Detection:

    • The stat card can help detect unusual patterns or unexpected IP address attachments, which could indicate a security misconfiguration or breach.
